The Medium is the Music
I started at First Avenue as a senior year intern, and a few years later stepped into the role of Graphic Designer—leading all creative work across the brand, from digital to print and everything in between.
The First Avenue brand is rooted in music, community, and the magic of live experience—whether it's seeing your favorite artist or discovering a new one. But calling it a single brand doesn’t quite capture it. First Avenue is a family of six distinct venues and two restaurants, each with its own character and crowd, but all connected by the same spirit: independent, artist-first, and Minnesotan. As Graphic Designer, I work to visually unify these spaces while honoring what makes each one feel special.
Best New Bands
Best New Bands is one of First Avenue’s biggest annual events. It celebrates emerging local talent and giving them a shot to perform on the Mainroom stage. Each year, the event gets a full visual refresh. I design the logo first, then build out the full poster and promo suite from there. It’s a chance to push the aesthetic in a new direction each year, while still keeping it rooted in the energy of discovery and local music.
